This landmark exhibition will examine the early struggles and ultimate triumph of the artists who created the style known as Impressionism, along with the role played by the great Parisian art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel in their success.
Durand-Ruel was an early champion of the Impressionists and worked tirelessly over the course of nearly a half century to create a robust market for Impressionism in France, Germany, England, and the United States.
Discovering the Impressionists will explore key moments in the history of the Durand-Ruel Gallery, reuniting for the first time important paintings shown in the earliest exhibitions devoted to Manet, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Pissarro, and Cassatt. Highlights include the reassembling of Monet’s renowned series of Poplars and Renoir’s celebrated Dances.
